The Roving Eye is a ship, whose motley crew is organized within The International Fellowship of Royal Privateers, Guild of St. Errol, and run by Lars Lundegaard Productions.

Our ship, a Brigatine, formed in the fall of 2004 is currently manned by a crew of 22 (last updated: 07/12/2006) and home ported out of Revel Grove (Maryland Renaissance Festival). At the time of the keel laying, the Roving Eye was the 7th privateer based out of Revel Grove. Since that time the number of ships has grown to at least ten.

The crew has been known to show up at events through out the region. Any number of them are likely to show up at the Renaissance faires, Shanty Sings, and the various feasts and balls through out the region.

The crew is encouraged to join either/both of the following groups: the LiveJournal Community or the Yahoo Group, where I will try to post information and updates. Discussion is also encouraged (as long as rule 1 is followed *lol*).

The brigantine provided great maneuverability and speed from its various square and fore/aft-rigged sail possibilities. This sail combination allowed the brigantine to take advantage of different wind conditions. It was valued in the Mediterranean, where its earlier versions sometimes included oars that were better for diminished winds. Longer, heavier, roomier, and better manned than the smaller sloops and schooners, it was usually the first choice for prolonged battles instead of quick hits. A larger cargo area combined with moderate firepower meant the versatile brigantine also saw widespread use as a trade ship, thus making it a good choice for the privateers!
